There was a time in my life that when people told me they were really
“happy”, I thought they were either lying or too out of touch with
reality to understand the question. I’ve now found that happiness
really does exist and it is able to be found by anyone since it lies
within us. Happiness has been written about always and has many
proverbs and sayings attached to it. The interesting part is that most
of them are actually based in truth saving one exception…the ability to
pause, absorb and implement these truisms into our lives.
Happiness comes from within, happiness is not a destination, it is a
means of travel, we say that it is our unalienable right in the
Declaration of Independence: Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness,
and yet do we attempt to live these words or just smile at them as if
they were a cute thought that a child has posed? I teach my son to
believe these words and have to stop to remind myself in this busy world
that I am to do the same! I believe what I teach, happiness is an
option, but we have to work towards it. So if I believe it, what is
worth more to work towards than happiness? I have acquired things in my
life that I thought would make me happy only to be more miserable than
before, I have also been sitting with nothing, surrounded by what looked
like turmoil and experienced complete and utter bliss in my heart.
Nothing is more valuable than happiness!
Live these words; live them in your life, in the way they mean to you.
Live them as a decision at the beginning of your day and start your day
over as many times as you need to after a disturbance or incident but do
your best to live them and your best will suffice! I leave you with a
quote from someone who brought much happiness to many people in his
time: “Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events,
have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it
shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet. I have just
one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.” ~ Groucho Marx
