I want to talk with you a little about surrendering.  This is a difficult concept to really understand and it often trips up our best intentions. If you look up the word surrender in the dictionary you will likely see some of these definitions: Relinquish possession or control over; give up or agree to forgo the power or possession of another; an act of admitting defeat; or acceptance of despair. When you look at surrender in earthly terms it doesn’t sound like something that you would want to do. So, it is important to begin to break away from your conscious thoughts on surrendering and instead move towards the spiritual definition of surrender.

Spiritual surrender is understanding that you are part of the universe, not separate from it. As part of the universe you have access to all and everything that can be created. As part of the universe you also understand your reason for being on Earth and the experiences you have chosen to for this lifetime. Spiritual surrender is to plug back into the universal energy and allowing it to bring forth all that you need. The universe is made up of only one thing and that is energy. Energy forms everything: Stars, planets, you, all of our Earthly objects, to just name a few. Energy is all-knowing and intelligent. All things created and all things to be created are energy. You and I are bits of energy that combine to make our human bodies.

Sometimes you might feel that what is flowing in is not your idea of what you want. Keep in mind those feelings are from your Earthly conscious mind; the part that doesn’t want to give up control. Remember, the universal flow is helping you gain the correct experiences for this lifetime. Your spirit (which is you) knows what is most important for you to receive.

When you feel disappointed with what is happening in your life, or ask why you are suffering, it is time to reenergize your commitment and dedication to meditation and connecting with your spirit on a regular basis. Develop a centering meditation that helps you focus on your spiritual lifetime goals. You will want to focus your meditation sessions on learning to connect with the universal energy quickly.  You can develop a trigger, something that over time becomes so ingrained that you will only need to think of the trigger to remember your connection. Your trigger could be a certain color; you could use a mantra or simply a word, or even sound or music.

When you focus on giving up control and surrendering, you stay stuck in the Earthly realm experiences and feel the emotions of discontent, suffering, or unhappiness.  If you add a daily meditation devoted to connecting with your spirit and the universal energy you will over time you will find that surrendering no longer exists.

Exercise:

Choose your favorite color. Sit in meditation and imagine this color pouring down and surrounding you with bright vibrant light. Next, say I am the universe, the entire universe is contained within me, I am everywhere in the universe. Visualize seeing all parts of the universe enter into you from above. Bring things into you one at a time: The Earth, planets, start, people, animals, etc. This is a short meditation and it should be done daily. Truly make it part of every day.
