In Today’s world the competition is cut throat . A slightest lapse and we will slip from the top of the ladder to the bottom . In such a fierce environment most of the actions originating from the human mind are aimed at maximizing our gains and abilities and minimizing the risks . . The flow eventually leading to the formulation of an event is Outside inwards. Before taking any action we want to gather the information available , form a mental concept  about it which weighs the risks and benefits related to it and then take a calculated action .Fear, jealousy ,distrust might be some of the emotions fuelling the act. I call it the surface act.

There is another mode of operation of the mind , just reverse of the surface act. Here the intention behind every action is to bring about a positive change to someone or something without bothering about the risk or benefit attached to it . Love and a sense of belonging are the only feelings inspiring the act. The flow eventually leading to the formulation of an event is Inside Outwards. I call it the Spiritual Act.

Whether the mind is accustomed to bring about surface or spiritual acts depends on our belief systems . If we are attached to our identity which we may call ‘ego’, most of the actions would be surface acts. On the other hand if we are one with the infinite energy field we may call God, nature or divinity total detachment with ‘ego’ results. Then  every action originating from us is a selfless  uplifting spiritual act .

The world is in a transition phase. More and more people are looking up to spirituality as a way to be . The number of  spiritual organizations guiding people through various means available , may it be breath, sound  or self enquiry , into realizing our true nature are increasing by the day . To any seeker ‘SEVA’ is one of the most intriguing action . There are many interpretations and meanings of this four lettered word, and it is considered to be the most integral in one’s quest to self realization .

I believe every human being exist at a particular depth. The extent of attachment of the individual to its ego is the measure of the depth . A totally self realized being is one who’s ego is totally dissolved in the depths of divinity . At every level the definition and understanding of the word SEVA would differ for us . Deep down at very subtle levels of the mind each one is aware that there is some connection between all life forms . This very connection which we term as love gives birth to an intention to serve or cause a positive uplifting change to someone else’s life . This thought manifests through an action which we more commonly term as SEVA .

Every seeker is at a different depth in the journey to realization. At more surface levels this intention is not allowed to manifest effortlessly , as the attachment to the ego is predominant . The mind starts to weigh this action against the benefit or loss that may occur to the ego if this act is executed. This causes a feeling of dissatisfaction and guilt to creep in. The sphere which encircles the people which we call ‘related’ are restricted to family or may be the ones with whom we are emotionally attached. The actions manifesting through us are mostly surface acts or restricted spiritual acts.

To the one whose ego is totally dissolved, every creation of the universe is a relation . Everything existing comes into the sphere which we call ‘Our Own ‘.The very existence of such a being is a ‘SEVA’. Anything that he does, may it be professional work, play , recreation or social activities is oriented towards uplifting someone or bringing happiness into someone’s life . When we detach our ownership from any action it becomes God’s action and God can do nothing but ‘SEVA’. The usual impression is that  SEVA can only be done through social service to the poor and needy . In actuality SEVA is a way to be . When we live in our true nature, one with the divinity that we are , anything happening through us is a spiritual act of SEVA.

For all of us who are on the journey to Ourselves , there is no need to be disappointed if a restriction is felt in the act of serving . If you feel intended to serve , it is for a reason . The seed has already been planted , it will sprout in due course of time . Just be aware of the ego intervening in your act and be ready to surrender all your burdens to nature . Long  to be one with the power that caused you to BE and  when we believe in our true nature we would just be mediums through which the divine acts  …..
