My ponderings
My upbringing was dark and painful. Christianity was a welcome light of hopeful light and purity. I was so happy to shed dark behaviors, habits and mindsets and embrace wholesomeness. I've since moved beyond the circles of Christianity but since that time, I've found healthy living, self-improvement, prevention and solution based living something desirable and something to strive for. It makes my wonder people are so attracted to rebellion. Not caring, F- it attitudes win in popularity hands down. Why is being wasteful and careless, haphazard and rebellious so cool and fascinating to others? Rather than being good, disciplined and diligent. Open and compassionate. Why do we find these qualities weak?
They only reasons I can think of are: 1) We respect those who can go against the grain, against odds and against fear. 2) We feel an ease from guilt and shame when others get "dirty". "See I'm not so bad". (3) Fantastic Mr. Fox revealed the element of "animal nature" as a component to why we enjoy being bad. No matter how evolved, we are still animals, living in animal bodies, so we appreciate when others are in touch with their animal nature, even if it isn't for the highest good.
These are just thoughts and theories. What do you think?
Even though I think these points are valid, I'm still saddened and disturbed and saying F- it and eating a juicy burger is more popular than eating a regular organic high veggie diet, for example. Too boring to most people. Even though diet is so intricately tied to how we feel and function every day and a direct preventative of degenerative diseases and cancers.
How can responsible living become more popular? We need a shift!
