Perception is Projection
We've all heard the saying, "Perception is reality." Is that true? Is
perception really reality? No, reality is unique to each individual.
Many people have different experiences of the same event. So what
determines someone’s perception?
Right now there are billions of bits of information surrounding your peripheral awareness. Your neurology or nervous system can’t take all of that information in ~ it’s just way too intense! So what we do all day long is delete, distort, and generalize reality. We only pick up a very small percentage of what’s actually going on. What we pick up or perceive is that which harmonizes with our subconscious mind. Hence, our external world is always a reflection of our internal world.
Perception is Projection works on the premise that we tend to observe current events through filters. These filters work like camera lenses colored by previous experience, both negative and positive. Often in life, emotional memories remain entrenched on a subconscious level, and we're not aware of the underlying thought patterns affecting our perceptions.
So much of life is derivative of what we expect of ourselves and of others, a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts. Controlled studies for new pharmaceutical drugs involve the use of a placebo, or sugar pill that commonly cures participants at better than 40%. These participants enter the study with a clean slate, believing that they will be receiving a promising new drug that will heal them of past ailments.
What if we could harness the power of the placebo in our everyday lives? What if we believed that certain things were going to work, and we weren't tied to the past? We can project positive beliefs into happening.
Perception is projection! If we perceive that something is aligned with what we want, or if we believe our dreams will come true, just based on the evidence of random drug studies we can surmise that our odds of success increase by at least 40%, even if it were otherwise impossible. But, how often are our dreams impossible?
What's not possible? Is it possible to create abundant wealth doing what you love while serving others? Is it possible that the next person who walks into your life might be able to support you in materializing your vision? By opening yourself to the possibility that each person is capable of helping you, you are allowing those people to be of help, rather than limiting them with preconceived beliefs as to who they are and what they have to offer. They might even help in unexpected ways.
Is it possible that we might have dynamic, exciting and loving relationships? Again, we can allow for positive movement, or we can restrict the growth of these relationships by projecting our limiting, pessimistic or injured perceptions.
Is it possible that we might move past any ailments or injuries that we are currently suffering from and into a healthier mind, body and spirit? The next person we talk with might be able to help us move in that direction by facilitating the healing process.
Is it possible to wake up every day inspired and passionate about life?
Believe that what you desire is attainable. Most people go through life never awakened to the power of their own thinking. Get clear on what you want. Ask the universe for it and, here's the important part, expect it. Intend to manifest it. See it, hear it, feel it. Move in the direction of the reality you desire.
If you could flip a coin and perhaps have what you want or not flip the coin and stay with what you've got, what would you do? Really, we have everything to gain and nothing to lose by believing that life is, despite temporary obstacles or intrusions, always improving and everyone we interact with is in a position to help.
If we're capable of accepting this idea, then we'll begin to understand how our perceptions influence other people? Do we facilitate their dreams with our perceptions or do we project presumptive limitations onto them?
Can we work cooperatively toward manifesting what we all want, or should we limit one another by acting competitively based on our fears and insecurities? Though I believe that you are on the right track and however much I like your analogy of projection and lenses, I would have to disagree with your conclusion that every reality is unique on an individual bases. In fact there is only one reality which is perceived differently from different perspectives. Imagine reality as being a multifaceted gem with an infinite amount of faces and every consciousness being a different facet looking inward toward the rest of the gem. Though everyone is a part of the same gem (reality) each facet refracts light onto the rest of the gem differently. The gem is reality. Our opinions, feelings and conceptual understanding of reality is not reality, it could be compared to the light that passes through the faces of the gem to refract throughout the rest of the gem (like your projection idea). True reality is what exists after we strip away our ideas about, or our projections on, reality. Reality is the manifestation of consciousness not perception. Perception is a distorted view of reality Therefore through perception; consciousness will always manifest distorted reality. It is like looking through a microscope believing that the way you are seeing is reality and building a car through that perception. The car would seem perfect until you tried to get in it. Then you would be frustrated because the car is microscopic and is therefore useless. When we can learn to see reality instead of seeing perception as reality then consciousness will always be able to manifest what is intended.
